Adaptogens & CBD - Do They Really Help Lower Stress?

Heard of adaptogens but wondered what their super powers really are? Science shows these powerful herbs protect the body from the toxic effects of stress and inflammation, which is arguably the worst health issue of our time.

They might seem totally new age, but the term was actually coined by the Soviet Union’s Ministry of Health way back in 1947—referring to a class of herbs and mushrooms that offer heavy-duty support for the body’s natural resistance to “adverse influences”. Those influences include anything that taxes the body, from illness to working out (like when you don’t take your rest days) to straight-up stress.

These fatigue fighters support your adrenals, the glands that manage your hormonal response to stress and help you cope with anxiety and fatigue.

The magic of adaptogens is that they adapt their function to your body’s needs. They’ve been used for centuries in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine.

Some adaptogens like reishi, ashwagandha and holy basil, help calm the body and soothe the adrenals when they’re super stressed.

CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system (ECS), found throughout the human body’s nervous system, organs, connective tissues, glands, and immune system.

When external forces disturb the body’s homeostasis, the ECS helps our body push back and regain balance.

Cannabis compounds like CBD are thought to assist in this balancing act, which can be disrupted by an unhealthy diet, stress, or toxin exposure, by binding to cannabinoid receptors in the body. They’re believed to help the body maintain balance when we’re on the brink of burnout.

Both CBD and adaptogens help regulate our response to life's stressors, making it easier to reach homeostasis: balance.

On their own, they individually have potential to help with your stress levels. But together…they could boost each others’ stress-busting power.

I had the opportunity to try Buddha Teas CBD and adaptogen teas. Digging a little more into the benefits of these teas I learned that the adult human body consists of approximately 50-65% water. This high percentage of TBW (total body water) makes it difficult to absorb substances that are not water-based. So, having a tea that contains water soluble CBD plus adaptogens is a special bonus!

Busy lives need regular health, wellness, and happiness breaks, and what better than tea time?
